The First Official 'Ghostbusters' Photo Is Badass and Offers a Lot of Green Smoke

Haven't we seen an image like this from director Paul Feig's new movie before?

We previously had a look at the new duds the Ghostbusters will wear, the new Ecto-1 they get to drive, and the new proton packs they’ll use to bust some ghosts. But before anyone could ask “Who you gonna call,” we now have the first official image of the new Ghostbusters in action, or is that inaction?

Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones in director Paul Feig's 'Ghosbusters.'

The photo from director Paul Feig’s newest movie sees the updated Ghostbusters lineup — including Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones — standing in front of an ominiously glowing green light ready to kick some specter ass and take names. We love the little details throughout — the architecture of the place they’re standing is reminiscent of the ornate design of Dana Barrett’s apartment from the original, as well as the no-nonsense look of the team (check out the attitude on McKinnon’s character’s slightly cocked head).

But we can’t help but be a little let down by this new photo. It’s basically more of the same. Feig tweeted out a similar photo of McCarthy, McKinnon, Wiig, and Jones standing at the ready earlier this summer. Swap out the Ecto-1 for a glowing green light and some mist and it’s the same deal.

Has Paul Feig run the goodwill of this project into the ground by giving us, well, too little too soon? He’s running the risk of turning into pre-Force Awakens J.J. Abrams territory where nothing is explained much to the chagrin of the fans.

But we should temper our irritation with our expectations. Ghostbusters doesn’t hit theaters until July 15, 2016, and we’re learning new surprises everyday, so we’ll have more than enough time to eat up as much new ghost-busting details as we possibly can.
