Zach Galifianakis Looks Bonkers in 'Baskets', the FX Dark Clown Comedy
We're getting in on the ground floor of this Louis C.K. trip.
So, this weekend, I’m at a brewery with my pal and he says to me, “Have you heard of this Louis C.K. show starring Zach Galifianakis as a clown?” I had not. I had not heard of Baskets. Then, just today, I was watching Last Man on Earth — for some reason, it’s gotten pretty bad — and a Baskets spot came on:
Holy shit. What is going on here? Let’s watch some more.
Okay, so clearly Galifianakis’s character is a major dick. This could work out fabulously and become one of the best shows on TV. Or it could crash hard.
Yikes, hopefully it’s not too slapsticky.
That’s more like it.
That’s something, alright.
That’s my jam.
Not much info is available about Baskets online: There’s no formal Facebook page or, even, a website of its own. The FX press release spells out the plot:
In a world constrained by corporate interests and the homogenization of society, one man in Bakersfield, California dares to follow his dream of becoming a professional clown. But after an unsuccessful enrollment at a prestigious clowning school in Paris, the only job he can find is with the local rodeo. Baskets follows Chip Baskets’ (Galifianakis) pursuit of his dream, against all odds, to be a respected clown.
I’m way, way in. Tell your drinking buddies, stat.
