Charlie Kaufman — the perpetually outside-the-box mind behind innovative films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich — is back and trying out stop-motion animation in a new film, Anomalisa’. Check out its newly released trailer:

The film, which stars David Thewlis and Jennifer Jason Leigh, is about “a man crippled by the mundanity of his life”. So, it’s just like every other Charlie Kaufman film, but unfortunately this time he’s dipped into uncanny valley with distractingly creepy visuals. Still, it’s been generating good buzz, taking home the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival. So if you’re not easily creeped out, the film hits theaters on December 30th in limited release.
