Ludi Lin Is the New Black Ranger in 2017's 'Power Rangers' Movie
Will he be Zack or Adam?
Lionsgate’s Power Rangers movie is seriously becoming a real thing that we will all see very soon. This week saw the casting of its Red Ranger, but today the movie has recruited its new Black Ranger: Ludi Lin, and he’s an Asian dude.
The original series did in fact feature an Asian Black Ranger: Adam, who replaced Zack and was portrayed by Johnny Yong Bosch in the TV show and the 1995 feature film.
It’s been assumed and heavily rumored that the Power Rangers film will feature the original characters of Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Trini, and Billy, but based on Power Rangers history this may not be the case at all. It was an honest mistake in 1993 to have Zack, played by African-American actor Walter Jones as the group’s “Black Ranger,” but the world of 2015 simply would not accept it.
A change in casting decisions rectifies this problem, but established Power Rangers history might have already provided a solution 20 years ago.
Power Rangers is being directed by Dean Israelite with a script by X-Men: First Class writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller. It is scheduled for January 13, 2017.
