Watch: 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Teasers for the Trailer
About a minute of new footage has been teased before the new trailer drops on Monday night.
The final trailer for The Force Awakens will hit the airwaves tonight during halftime of Monday Night Football, which means a few things.
First, geek culture is now officially and unquestionably the norm. Secondly, Disney is really pulling some cross-promotional synergy with this rollout (ABC is owned by Disney, which also owns Lucasfilm). And finally, it’s true: we get to hear some dialogue from the new movie. If you don’t want to wait until 10 p.m. EST to see some footage, you’re in luck. Various Star Wars accounts have released snippets featuring some of the new movie’s main characters.
Call them teasers for the trailer, if you will.
- This one isn’t anything new. We’ve seen this shot of BB-8 in the teaser trailer, but this little snippet features the little droid’s voice designed by Star Wars sound designer mastermind Ben Burtt.
- This is probably the best out of all of the teaser clips, mostly because it features the first time we’ve seen Oscar Isaac and John Boyega together in new footage. That’s a fairly stern look that Isaac’s character Poe gives Boyega’s Finn, and it looks like the new Resistance is gearing up for some kind of attack or defensive operation.
- We say defensive operation because of this clip, which sees Daisy Ridley’s character Rey for the first time on a planet other than the desert covered Jakku. She looks particularly concerned, mostly because it looks like the evil First Order is mounting a serious attack with hundreds of new ships on an as yet named forested planet. It’s a shot reminiscent of The Phantom Menace, which could upset some people.
- This one is a montage of even smaller clips from each of the little snippets, but it also features glimpses of new footage — mostly of the characters staring off camera deep in thought. We see Rey sitting at a table on what we assume to be the new desert planet of Jakku; Poe looking concerned while holding a rifle with what looks like an X-Wing or some other spacecraft in the background; BB-8 peaking around the corner in the same shot from the teaser trailer; Finn from the same clip above, and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren firing up his homemade lightsaber in a shot from the teaser trailer as well.
Hopefully we’ll get to see much more new footage when the final trailer drops tonight. In the meantime, we can’t help but geek out about what’s next.
