'Mandalorian' leak hints at the return of a classic Star Wars character
The series could feature a famous Jedi master.
The Mandalorian is all the rage right now among Star Wars fans. While only two episodes have aired on Disney+, the new live-action series has already served up a lot of Easter eggs and intriguing characters to dissect. Although Baby Yoda has been one of the biggest talking points from the series so far, a new leak hints that the return of a classic character could directly link The Mandalorian to another Disney+ show. Let’s dive in.
Warning! Speculative spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian.
While Ewan McGregor finally confirmed there would be a Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series at D23 in August. But all other information about the show is being kept under wraps. Making Star Wars editor Jason Ward recently posted a new YouTube video suggesting the timeline of The Mandalorian could allow McGregor to appear in the show.
“There’s a rumor that Ewan McGregor is Obi-Wan Kenobi in the series, and he’s the guy who finds the foundling who becomes The Mando,” Ward says. He adds that he has not yet verified the rumor, but has heard it quite a few times.
It would be a clever way to connect the post-ROTJ series to Obi-Wan and the Jedi Order via flashbacks. If McGregor simply appears in a flashback with the young Mando, then the timelines remain intact. What’s more, now that Baby Yoda (who already has Jedi powers) has been introduced into the series, The Mandalorian could somehow connect him back to Obi-Wan as well. To be fair, Baby Yoda is only being called such because he hails from the same race of creatures as the famous Jedi Master. It’s unclear whether this green youngster has anything to do with Obi-Wan at all. Either way, The Mandalorian looping in one of Star Wars’ most famous characters would be the icing on the cake. With only six more episodes to go before the end of its first season, we’ll find out soon enough whether the leak is true or not.
The Mandalorian is currently streaming weekly on Disney+.
