Tinashe already surprise-released an EP, Amethyst, earlier this year. She’s now gearing up to release Joyride, the follow-up to her 2014 debut, Aquarius. Today, we have the album’s first single, “Party Favors” featuring Young Thug.
“Party Favors” has a little bit of everything. The video-game-like synth that opens the song and serves as its backbone is attractively off-kilter. It teases the listener by never quite settling into a stasis. There’s some hip-hop with the heavy bass and, of course, Young Thug’s guest verse. There’s even some pop EDM with a light buildup to the drop during the bridge. “Party Favors” doesn’t have the same kind of immediate and memorable hook as last year’s “2 On,” but will certainly hold up amid an album of similarly-minded tracks.
