'WandaVision' casting leak could confirm a huge MCU X-Men theory
Could the upcoming Disney+ series adapt the "House of M" comic storyline?
While WandaVision isn’t set to launch on Disney+ until 2021, fans are already wondering what the series will be about. Given that Paul Bettany will be back as Vision (who died in Avengers: Infinity War), it’s safe to say that anything could happen. Since Disney now owns the rights to 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe, a recently leaked casting call for WandaVision may explain exactly how the beloved mutants will be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It’s unclear where we’ll pick up with Scarlet Witch in WandaVision. The first promotional images for the show depicted the characters in a 1950s setting, suggesting that Wanda altered reality to bring Vision back post-Endgame. The wholesome image looks plucked from a sitcom, and suggests they might have even started a family together.
Speculative spoilers ahead for Wandavision.
Over on Reddit, u/ImNaiyar posted a leaked casting call, which alleged the studio was looking for two infants for the series. The casting call offers the first clue to the introduction of Wiccan, Speed, and the House of M storyline.
In the comics, the House of M storyline began after Scarlet Witch suffered a mental breakdown that led to her manipulating reality to bring back her children. This turned the Marvel world upside down, and a plethora of characters — including the X-Men — tried to stop Wanda from changing the fabric of time. In this new reality, Wiccan and Speed are the children of Wanda and Vision.
Considering that the casting call is looking for babies, there’s a big chance that the series begins with Wanda having already warped reality. After all, it’s no coincidence that Wanda and Vision look like a happily married couple enjoying their time together in the poster for the show. Something’s definitely off.
Elizabeth Olsen will also appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which may be further evidence that reality is not what it seems in Phases Four and Five of the MCU. Marvel fans on Reddit have been speculating about the House of M and its inclusion in the Disney+ series for a while now, and this latest casting rumor suggests those theories may have some merit.
What better way is there to introduce the X-Men to the MCU than through an alternate reality? Even if Wanda is able to change things back, the damage is done and the worlds of the X-Men and the Avengers could permanently collide. With upcoming films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Eternals embracing the concept of a multiverse, Wanda is a fitting character to build upon those ideas elsewhere in the Marvel universe.
All that said, it’s worth bearing in mind that casting calls aren’t always what they seem. Details about the actual role could be changed later to prevent spoilers. Still, the fact that the show is looking for babies at all is definitely worth noting. And although plot details for WandaVision remain a mystery, the Disney+ series could kickstart the MCU into a new and exciting era.
WandaVision premieres on Disney+ in the spring of 2021.
