4 surviving Rebels who could appear in 'The Rise of Skywalker' with Wedge

The Resistance needs all the help it can get.

News broke this week that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker would feature the return of saga legend Wedge Antilles. Antilles is a storied Rebellion pilot, having participated in the destruction of both Death Stars (and being the only Rebel pilot to have survived both runs). His return to Star Wars makes all the sense in the world — if this is the true end to the Skywalker Saga, Luke’s old best bud might as well come back for one last hurrah. Plus, at this point, the Resistance needs all the help it can get as it takes on the First Order.

Speaking of which, things sure did look grim by the end of The Last Jedi. The Resistance was decimated in its escape run to Crait and only a handful of members survived. But if the legendary Wedge Antilles will be returning to aid the Resistance, why stop there? There are a number of surviving Rebels who could still make a triumphant return to aid the Resistance in their time of greatest need. Here are a few we might see again in The Rise of Skywalker.

Mon Mothma

This is the easiest call. Mon Mothma is a legendary Rebellion leader responsible for helping orchestrate both Death Stars attacks. Heck, she co-founded the Rebel Alliance to begin with. There’s no telling who will lead the Resistance in the (possible) absence of Carrie Fisher’s General Leia Organa, but with Mon Mothma still canonically in play, the answer seems obvious. She led the Rebellion to victory once before. Even years down the line, we’re sure she could do it again.

Crix Madine in *Return of the Jedi.*

Crix Madine

Madine is a Corellian native who, despite largely being a background character in his appearances in the franchise, has an immensely compelling backstory. He once led a commando unit for the Empire after the Clone Wars ended, but eventually defected, joining the Rebel Alliance and becoming a highly decorated officer. This is a guy who knows the ins and outs of the Empire and, likely has a pretty keen understanding of how the First Order would function. He was also a big player in orchestrating the destruction of the second Death Star. The Resistance would be lucky to have a warrior like him on their side.

Carlist Rieekan

The events of The Last Jedi depict some of the great failures of the Resistance. By the time it ends, their forces have been utterly decimated and they’re forced to evacuate Crait and reassess their strategy moving forward. It sounds like what the Resistance needs at this point is someone with experience in rebuilding, in making the best out of failure. What they need is Carlist Rieekan. Rieekan is a founding member of the Rebellion and was the commander of Echo Base on Hoth. When the Battle of Hoth left the Rebel forces decimated, it was Rieekan who oversaw the safe evacuation of the remaining members. He got them to safety and then helped plan their next move - aiding in several crucial military operations throughout the remainder of the Galactic Civil War. Still alive to this day, he could be the key to the Resistance rebuilding in the wake of The Last Jedi.
