'It: Chapter 2' Post-Credits Scene: Do You Need to Stick Around, Clown?

Do you need to stick around, clown?

In the age of superhero blockbusters, sometimes even horror film franchises want to tease what’s next by throwing in an epilogue, mid-credits scene, or even a post-credits scene. But is that the case with the latest horror movie based on a Stephen King novel, It: Chapter Two?

It: Chapter Two, out September 6, is a direct follow-up to director Andy Muschietti’s 2017 It. Set 27 years later, the sequel features adult versions of the same characters in one final confrontation against the clownish monster that plagues Derry, Maine. The younger cast from the first film all reprise their roles in a series of flashbacks and visions. Many of the same plot beats, twists, and scares from the original novel make their way into the film, and several pieces of marketing materials for the film brazenly read “IT Ends,” so it isn’t much of a spoiler to say that the conflict against the doppelganger demon comes to a final conclusion.

So is there a post-credits scene?

No, It: Chapter Two does not have a post-credits scene. Once the movie ends and the credits start rolling, that’s it for the terrifying adventure of the Losers’ Club.

Without spoiling anything, we will say that after the thrilling conclusion, the plot feels like it’s wrapped up in a neat and satisfying way, leaving almost no questions lingering whatsoever. Stephen King purists might rebel against some of the many changes made in this latest adaptation, but the ending itself is pretty conclusive.

A seemingly all-powerful doppelganger that likes appearing as a creepy clown could probably figure out a way to cheat death, but if Warner Bros. every follows up with a Chapter Three, they’ll do so without the help of any kind of post-credits scene.

It: Chapter Two stars Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise the Dancing Clown with James McAvoy, Jay Ryan, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, and Andy Bean as the adult versions of the Losers Club. Jaeden Martell, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Wyatt Oleff all reprise their roles as the younger versions of the Losers.

It: Chapter Two will be released in theaters September 6, 2019.
