Texas College Student Gets DWI, Now Cruises in Toy Barbie Jeep

We aren't advocating for drunk-driving, but this is one helluva solution to a problem.

When a Texas State student named Tara Monroe got slapped with a DWI — after attending a Wacka Flack Flame concert (!!!) — her license was suspended. (Makes sense, yes, good.) So, she did what nobody else has ever done before: She found a Barbie Jeep Power Wheels on Craigslist and bought it for 60 bucks from a little girl named Charlene. “When we drove up to buy it Charlene asked where the little one was to test drive it, to which I replied, ‘I am the little one,’” she tells the San Antonio Express-News. She has since named the ride after Charlene, and has become famous for driving it across campus and around town. Monroe is 20 years old. Let’s get some visuals:

Monroe is definitely hungover in that one.

Check out the photo on the bottom right: I’m pretty sure Monroe is rocking a University of Texas shirt, which is definitely not where she goes to school. Also, peep that backpack mount. Tara Monroe gives less-than-zero fucks. Side note: Props to the dude on the bottom left who isn’t turning his head as she rolls by. Are you kidding me?

That’s a 12-volt battery topping out at 5 mph, people.

In case you’re scratching your head, wondering about other modes of transport, Monroe has you covered. “Riding a bike around campus sucks,” she says. “Like really sucks.” Wow. It did get us thinking, though: Why don’t more people ride dirty like this? If we were all cruising around towns in open-air toys that most people can outrun (or bikes), there sure would be a lot less traffic fatalities. Retirement communities have it all figured out. And maybe Tara Monroe is a model for us all. Then again: Maybe she’s not.
