'Mindhunter' Season 2 Release Time, Netflix Launch Date, Killers, and Plot
Plus everything we know about the Season 2 plot.
by Corey PlanteNetflix’s dramatized true-crime series, Mindhunter, finally returns for a second season this Friday a year and a half after its debut on the streaming platform, and we’ve got all of the info fans need to know about the new season and when it’ll be available, including the exact release time when you can start streaming Mindhunter Season 2.
Based on the nonfiction book by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker called Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, the Netflix series chronicles the efforts of fictional FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) as they profile serial killers in the late ‘70s for the Behavioral Science Unit (BSU) with the help of psychologist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv). Together, they develop the concept of a “serial killer” by analyzing similar patterns in the murderers, using these profiles to make predictive assumptions that help solve crimes.
While some of the central characters are fictional, many of the prominent serial killers represented in the series are adapted from real-life killers. What’s the deal for Mindhunter Season 2?
What Is the Plot of Mindhunter Season 2?
The official synopsis from Netflix that’ll probably appear when users select it in the streaming platform’s database reads as follows:
The Behavioral Science Unit’s killer instincts move from theory into action when the FBI joins in a high-profile hunt for a serial child murderer.
Per the Season 2 trailer, we know that the new season will focus on the Atlanta child murders. Between 1979 and 1981, as many as 30 black residents of Atlanta — mostly male and mostly teenagers or children — were killed.
Wayne Williams was convicted of two murders with limited evidence connecting him to some of the other murders, but for the most part, the case remains unsolved. Mindhunter Season 2 will explore how the BSU uses their analysis of other serial killers to track down Williams — and who knows what other surprises might arise.
We also know that Holden Ford and Bill Tench will enlist the help of a few more imprisoned serial killers in Season 2, including David Berkowitz (ala, Son of Sam) and Charles Manson. And, of course, Season 1 breakout star Ed Kemper (played by Cameron Britton) will return as well.
What Is the Mindhunter Season 2 Release Date?
In July, Mindhunter executive producer David Fincher confirmed that the series’ second season would be released on Netflix August 16, 2019. That’s this Friday!
When Exactly Is the Mindhunter Season 2 Release Time?
Netflix unlocks each new series or movie at the stroke of midnight on the release date, but on Pacific time. That means for anyone on the east coast, Mindhunter Season 2 will be available in the early hours of Friday, August 16, precisely at 3 a.m. Eastern.
That’s probably not the ideal time to start watching a new season, especially if you’re on the East coast, but for a show like Mindhunter, maybe staying up late to watch Season 2 all alone at 3 a.m. will help put you in the serial killer mindset.
Mindhunter Season 2 will be released on Netflix on Friday, August 16, 2019.
