Netflix Movies August 2019: Watch This Classic, Underrated Tarantino Movie

It also makes for a perfect double feature with 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'.

Quentin Tarantino’s ninth movie is about to hit theaters, but one of his best (if least appreciated) will be streaming on Netflix in just a few short days. If you’re not interested in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — or you already saw it and want more Tarantino in your life —this ‘90s classic is sure to hit the spot.

In a monthly press release announcing everything new on Netflix in August, the company revealed that it obtained the right to stream the 1997 movie Jackie Brown, along with some other exciting additions like Panic Room, Groundhog Day, and the Rocky movies (I through V). But for Tarantino fans, this often overlooked tribute to the blaxploitation movies of the 1970s might be the most important thing coming to Netflix next month.

'Jackie Brown'

Miramax

Starring blaxploitation icon Pam Grier as the main character, Jackie Brown, Tarantino’s third movie featured an all-star cast including Robert De Niro, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson (of course). The plot focuses on Grier’s character, an airline attendant who’s busted for smuggling money and gets enlisted in a plot to bring down her gun-dealing boss (Jackson).

If you’re looking for even more Tarantino, Netflix also has Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, and The Hateful Eight. But for my money, Jackie Brown has them all beat when it comes to delivering a clever, enjoyable story that doesn’t get bogged down in its own high-minded concepts.

Jackie Brown hits Netflix on August 1.
