'Avengers 5' 2022: Release Date, Cast, Team, and Everything We Know Now

Marvel didn't announce the next Avengers movie, but what it did say reveals plenty.

SAN DIEGO — Marvel Studios just announced 10 new movies and TV shows that will make up Phase 4 over the next two-and-a-half years. But the one thing missing Hulk-sized lineup? Avengers 5

It’s hard to imagine the Marvel Cinematic Universe going through an entire phase without another epic-crossover, but it looks like that’s the plan (unless one of these movies is actually a secret Avengers movie à la Captain America: Civil War). So what does that mean for the inevitable Avengers 5 release date, and which superheroes will make up the team? Let’s find out.

What Is the Avengers 5 Release Date?

If we assume that Marvel isn’t hiding any releases in its Phase 4 calendar, then you can probably expect Avengers 5 to arrive in 2022 or later. If we’re being generous, it could happen in summer 2022 — especially if Phase 4’s finale movie Thor: Love and Thunder ends on a huge Infinity War-style cliffhanger.

Then again, if Marvel takes a more traditional approach, then Avengers 5 would arrive at the end of Phase 5. That could be summer or even fall 2023…

Who’s the Avengers 5 Cast? (What’s the Team?)

Ok, here’s where things get tricky. Thankfully, my colleague Eric Francisco already did the hard work, tweeting out his predictions for who could make up the team in Avengers 5.

Here’s his breakdown of the team and cast for Avengers 5:

  • Captain America (Sam Wilson) — Anthony Mackie
  • Thor (Jane Foster) — Natalie Portman
  • Black Panther — Chadwick Boseman
  • (Professor) Hulk — Mark Ruffalo
  • Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) — TBA
  • Spider-Man — Tom Holland

And for fun, here’s a few big maybes to add to the list that Eric didn’t include:

  • Blade — Mahershela Ali
  • Scarlet Maximoff (Wanda) — Elizabeth Olsen
  • Vision — Paul Bettany
  • The Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes) — Sebastian Stan

That’s a lot of heroes, but if Avengers 5 isn’t even bigger than the previous Avengers movie, what’s the point anyway, right?

Of course, it’s also important to remember that despite Marvel’s very official-looking Phase 4 calendar, nothing is set in stone. After all, Avengers: Endgame was originally called Infinity War Part 2, and Marvel almost made an Inhumans movie.

Plans change and the MCU adapts. The only thing we know for sure is that Avengers: 5 will happen. Eventually.

Marvels Phase 4 begins with Black Widow on May 1, 2020.
