'Fortnite' Loot Carrier Locations: How to Destroy Them in Season 9, Week 4
This new mechanic feels like a real game-changer, and Epic Games wants you to know about it.
by Corey PlanteEpic Games low-key introduced a game-changing new concept for Fortnite: Battle Royale with the version 9.10 update on May 29, and they’re drawing attention to it with a new Week 4 challenge requiring players to “destroy a Loot Carrier in different matches” three times.
What’s a Loot Carrier? How do players find them? Is it hard to destroy them? Here’s all that and more.
Think of Loot Carriers like Supply Drops, but much more mobile. Rather than dropping straight down via balloon, they’re little drones that slowly fly around in circles over specific destinations referred to as “Hot Spots.”
“Every match, select named locations will be marked in gold text on the map,” the 9.10 update patch notes say. “These Hot Spots represent the presence of Loot Carriers. Shoot down the carriers for additional high-quality weapons.”
Rather than the usual white or black text, Hot Spots are indicated on the map with gold text. This will lead many adept players to rethink their whole landing strategy.
Aptly named Hot Spots can transform the least-trafficked named locations into a hot spot of player activity at the start of a match.
Here are some further essential details:
- Loot Carriers drop a weapon of Rare or higher quality along with two stacks of ammo.
- Hot Spots will have between 12 and 16 Loot Carriers depending on the size of the location.
Completing this challenge is easy. Run a quick scan of the map at the start of the match to see where the Hot Spot is, and then do your best to be the first person to land. Do so at the highest possible location where you can see a weapon or chest, even if that weapon is a common one. Loot Carriers go down very quickly and drop excellent weapons with plenty of ammo, so the quicker you take one down, the easier it’ll be to defend yourself.
We highly suggest that players do it as soon as humanly possible, before most players catch on to the growing importance of this new feature. Right now, most players land at popular destinations like Mega Mall and Neo Tilted because of all the loot and enemy players to fight. Hot Spots and Loot Carriers, however, will force players to land elsewhere because that’s where the best loot will be.
According to the in-game countdown, Season 9 doesn’t end until July 23, so players have plenty of time to complete this challenge.
