'Rick and Morty' Season 4 Cast Has Paul Giamatti and Maybe Elon Musk
Could that secret Roiland-Musk collaboration be a Season 4 cameo?
by Corey PlanteWe thought we couldn’t be more excited for Rick and Morty Season 4, but we just found out about two very awesome possible guest stars for the upcoming episodes. According to co-creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, Paul Giamatti lent his voice to a new role — and there may even be an Elon Musk cameo. Yes, you heard that right
During an interview published by HollywoodLife on May 15, Harmon and Roiland talk about some of the vocal talent that may or may not appear in Rick and Morty Season 4. It’s tough to tell what’s a joke with these two, but Harmon claims that actor John Lithgow declined an invite to be on the show, but that actor Paul Giamatti agreed to it and was recording lines on May 16.
Later, when asked about that time he did PewDiePie’s Meme Review with Elon Musk, Roiland almost let slip something that made it seem like he and Musk collaborated on some secret Rick and Morty-related project.
“The truth is, we were …” Roiland began. “Oh! God! I almost … No, nothing. I caught myself. I can’t really tell you the true story of how that happened, but I will say that I was hanging out with Elon, and then he said, ‘Will you do this thing with me?’”
Dan Harmon then tries to clarify what Roiland is talking about, saying, “You were recording …” At this, Roiland freaks out and cuts him off. Roiland and Musk were recording something, but was it an Elon Musk cameo in Rick and Morty Season 4? Or did it have something to do with Justin Roiland lending his vocal talents to Tesla or some other Musk-related project.
That Meme Review episode was published in late February, less than a month after Musk announced that Tesla cars would have a [“Sentry Mode”](https://www.tesla.com/blog/sentry-mode-guarding-your-tesla) inspired by the “Keep Summer Safe” bit from Rick and Morty Season 2’s “The Ricks Must Be Crazy.”
Could that be an indication that Morty and Rick are going to help promote Tesla? Sentry Mode began rolling out on February 13, which is around the time that Roiland and Musk met up to record their Meme Review segment.
If Musk wanted an authentic voice recording of Rick’s car, then he’d get Kari Wahlgren to reprise her role as the voice of Rick’s computer. But that’s something only hardcore Rick and Morty fans would care about. For Tesla, it makes more sense to get Roiland’s voice, even if it’s not officially canon.
So will Rick and Morty appear in a Tesla ad? Will they be an integral part of the new sentry mode? Or is Elon actually going to turn up in Rick and Morty Season 4? To be honest, all three options make sense, but we’re definitely hoping for the third one.
Rick and Morty Season 4 premieres November 2019 on Adult Swim.
