'Jessica Jones' Season 3 Spoilers: Photos Tease a Conflicted New Villain
by Eric FranciscoJessica Jones Season 3 approaches, and with it, a new teaser and photos that hint at what’s to come. In one picture in particular, Trish (Rachael Taylor) is seen training to become a fighter, which strongly suggests the character will collide with her sister, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) by the series’ end.
Netflix also confirmed the season’s premiere date. The third season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones will begin streaming on Netflix on June 14.
On Tuesday, Netflix released the first images of Jessica Jones Season 3. For fans who are familiar with Marvel’s alcoholic P.I., the images are nothing out of the ordinary: Jessica at a bar, Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Ann Moss) and Malcolm (Eka Darville) in their new business partnership, Trish’s training, and Jessica getting out of a cab. Looks like another Tuesday in the MCU’s New York City.
But take a closer look: In the photo of the dive bar, Jessica is sitting next to the series’ new villain, an unnamed antagonist played by Benjamin Walker. In the official plot synopsis released by Netflix, it says that Jessica Jones will cross paths “with a highly intelligent psychopath.” Could that psychopath be Walker?
Walker’s character may also be a red herring, as the plot synopsis actually teases Trish as the season’s main villain. As Jessica and Trish “team up” to take down Walker’s character, “a devastating loss reveals their conflicting ideas of heroism and sets them on a collision course that will forever change them both.”
You can see the photos below.
If you recall the events of Season 2, Jessica and Trish’s relationship as sisters fractured when Jessica had to deal with her birth mother. After Trish killed her, Jessica couldn’t forgive Trish, leaving the two to part ways. At the same time, Trish discovered new cat-like reflexes — a consequence to becoming briefly addicted to the IGH drug that gives users powers at a cost.
As for the mutual enemy both Jessica and Trish attempt to take down, little is known about them at the moment. Netflix did not reveal their identity in the synopsis. But a leaked character breakdown suggest the villain could be named “Collins,” who is “driven by a pathological need to feel superior.” (It’s worth noting that such breakdowns often use fake names to avoid spoilers.)
Season 3, which will serve as the finale to not just Jessica Jones but the Netflix side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, seems to set the stage for Jessica and Trish to duke it out in an emotionally loaded conflict that is poised to end both their stories for good. Whatever it takes.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season 3 will stream on Netflix on June 14.
