Why You Need to Rewatch This Movie Before Seeing 'Avengers: Endgame'

Just do it. You'll thank me later.

Avengers: Endgame is almost here, but there’s still time to rewatch a few classic Marvel movies before you find out where the last 11 years have been heading. There are more than 20 movies to choose from, but after seeing Endgame, there’s just one entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that I really wish I’d rewatched first: Guardians of the Galaxy.

How Much Could a 5-Year-Old Movie Influence Avengers: Endgame?

Confused? I don’t blame you, especially when most of the Guardians of the Galaxy are dead. But trust me, there’s a very good reason to rewatch the movie. Here’s why.

Without going into too much detail and risk spoiling anything, it’s worth noting that several characters from Guardians of the Galaxy play major roles in Endgame. You already know that Rocket and Nebula are still around (the trailers confirmed that much).

Nebula’s adoptive father, Thanos, is also obviously going to play a role in this movie. So it’s worth revisiting how all those characters relate to each other.

On top of that, at least one other Guardians character plays a big role in Avengers: Endgame. I won’t say anymore, but again, having recently rewatched Guardians of the Galaxy will give you a much better frame of reference.

Why Not Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?

Seriously, you don’t want to know. Just trust me when I say that Avengers: Endgame references some very specific moments from Guardians of the Galaxy. It even recreates one iconic moment from the movie with a hilarious twist that you’ll enjoy even more if that original scene is fresh in your mind.

But What If —

Look, enough. Just trust me and rewatch Guardians of the Galaxy. Or don’t. But if you do, you’ll enjoy Avengers: Endgame a whole lot more.
