'On My Block' Season 3 Renewed: Trailer, Cast, Release Date, and Theories

On My Block Season 2 ended on a huge cliffhanger (just like Season 1 did), and after binging through the most recent episodes we can barely wait for more. When will the On My Block Season 3 release date arrive and what can we expect from the plot? Read on to find out.

What Happened at the End of On My Block Season 2?

Ruby survived his gunshot wound, but Olivia did not, something everyone has to deal with throughout Season 2.

But could the friend group be losing someone else after the finale cliffhanger? At the end of Season 2, Monse announces her decision to get out of Freeridge and attend an all-girls boarding school. Cesar, Ruby, and Jamal don’t believe her, and what follows is an argument about who needs who. It ends with Monse walking away (but briefly turning back to reaffirm her position).

However, when she walks away again, a van pulls up next to the guys. Three men get out, put black hoods over their heads, and toss them in the van. When Monse turns and sees no one on the sidewalk behind her, she’s kidnapped in the same manner, too.

Will There Be an On My Block Season 3?

Yes! Netflix confirmed that the show will get a Season 3 release date on April 29.

“It’s a special little show. It did pretty well in its first season, but it’s actually increased its following quite well in season two and people really have fallen in love with the characters and that cast,” Netflix vice president of originals Cindy Holland told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a great way to provide a window into that world for people who aren’t from it and also a mirror for the people who are from it.”

Prior to the renewal, co-creator Lauren Iungerich said that she was”hopeful” about returning with more episodes. “Netflix loves this show, we love this show, we’re hopeful we’ll get another season,” she told TV Guide. “I feel as good as I can feel waking up at two in the morning and going on Twitter and seeing that we were trending in the top position and knowing last year that we were the most binge-watched show of 2018. I’m hopeful that the audience is going to take us home and that’s what drives content on Netflix, the audience.”

After the renewal, Iungerich offered another statement to THR:

>”The entire On My Block team is beyond thrilled and grateful to continue telling this uniquely fun and important story with a third season. Four years ago, I had an idea to make a show for teenagers who didn’t see themselves represented on TV and to do it right and today we’ve all watched a generation of kids passionately express how this show makes them feel seen and heard. As filmmakers, we connect people vicariously, so it’s important to get that work right; to ensure it’s being told as authentically as possible, which means surrounding yourself with people — in front of and behind the camera — like the people in your narrative. Representation and inclusion makes our lives richer and the art better. At every turn. Because we can’t just ask each other to the party — we have to ask each other to dance.”

What Is the On My Block Season 3 Release Date?

If the series is renewed, Netflix could stick to the pattern established with the first two seasons’ releases. Season 1 dropped on Friday, March 16, 2018 and Season 2 on Friday, March 29, 2019.

Now that On My Block Season 3, there’s no reason to think Netflix won’t deliver new episodes by March 2020, especially given the shorter episode count. Possible release dates include March 13, March 20, or March 27, 2020.

When Will the On My Block Season 3 Trailer Be Released?

That depends entirely on a Season 3 release date. If the series is renewed, Netflix may release a teaser announcing such. Depending on when the release date is revealed, there may be another teaser for that.

As for a full Season 3 trailer, that probably won’t be out until about three weeks before the episodes drop, assuming the same pattern holds from Season 2.

How Many Episodes Will There Be in On My Block Season 3?

Season 3 will likely consist of eight episodes, down from the 10-episode orders for Seasons 1 and 2.

What Is the On My Block Season 3 Plot?

The main question that Season 3 has to answer is who kidnapped and what is going to happen to Monse, Cesar, Ruby, and Jamal.

“In Episode 10, when the kids find out that the money was switched, like a bait and switch, and that the Prophets were given the dirty money, they were worried that it would get back to them,” Lauren Iungerich, the show’s co-creator, told TV Guide. “And so potentially that’s what’s happened at the end.”

She added that they “have an awesome story planned” for a potential third season, including “a fun, surprising reveal.”

But there may be good news. Maybe a third season won’t begin with another character’s death.

The kids are “definitely going to be in danger,” Iungerich said. “But it might not be what you think it is.”

Whatever does happen, you can expect its impact on the kids to be addressed, just like Season 2 answered our lingering questions from Season 1.

“What is coming into play will definitely have ramifications for the series as a whole,” Iungerich said.

But will that include Monse changing her mind about leaving Freeridge. We’ll just have to wait until On My Block Season 3 to find out.
