'Avengers: Endgame' Toys and LEGO Confirm Thanos Will Attack Avengers HQ
by Mae AbdulbakiLEGO has unveiled five new Avengers: Endgame sets that hint at the team battling the Outriders in various settings and defending their headquarters from Thanos. In addition, newly revealed toys seems to confirms the Mad Titan’s attack on the Avengers compound. Though the Outriders have only emerged in toy form (they haven’t appeared in any of the trailers), Endgame may prove them to be formidable foes.
Two of the LEGO sets, one of which included Iron Man’s hall of armor and another that provided us with a potential glimpse into Thanos’ attack on Avengers headquarters, were leaked earlier this year. The other three toy sets (via Collider), however, are new, and place the Outriders front and center in battle.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Outriders are essentially Thanos’ minions, an alien species that serve the Mad Titan. They are also members of the Black Order in the comics. They’re easily identifiable, usually with two or three sets of arms and long bodies flecked with gold. The Outriders made their first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance during the Battle of Wakanda in Avengers: Infinity War.
In the below set, War Machine swoops in to fight the Outriders and save Ant-Man, who is probably overwhelmed by them. In the next set, Captain America fights the aliens by plowing through on an oversized new motorcycle equipped with blasters before taking them on in hand-to-hand combat. In the final LEGO set, however, it isn’t the Outriders the Avengers are fighting, but the Chitauri, the alien race the team encountered during the Battle of New York in The Avengers. This battle involves Rocket, Thor, and Black Widow as they take on the Chitauri using the Quinjet.
In another leaked toy set, this one of five statuettes from an unknown source, Thanos is included alongside Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, and Iron Man. The Mad Titan is standing atop the destroyed Avengers logo. Might this be confirmation that Thanos will indeed take on the Avengers at their compound? It sure looks like it. Believing he’d won following the Snap, Thanos had no reason to fight the Avengers, but if he were to discover that the team was time travelling in order to reverse the events of Infinity War and defeat him, he might be enraged enough to bring the fight to their turf.
Interestingly, Thanos is holding a sword in addition to the Infinity Gauntlet, and we see this same new weapon in the new LEGO sets as well. It’s unclear why the Mad Titan would need an extra weapon, though it’s possible the Avenger’s strategy could weaken the Infinity Gauntlet still attached to his left hand.
Avengers: Endgame hits theaters April 26, 2019.
