'Star Wars Episode 9' Title Rumors: Anthony Daniels Tweets Finally Decoded

by Jake Kleinman

Star Wars: Episode IX still doesn’t have an official title, but at least fans finally know what the heck C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels was tweeting about earlier this year. Unfortunately, it’s not the Episode IX title, a trailer release date, or any significant spoilers. But hey, at least we can finally put this Star Wars rumor to bed: Daniels is going to Star Wars Celebration this April.

How did we get here? The entire ordeal started in February 2019 when Daniels began tweeting about some mysterious Star Wars news, presumably related to Episode IX.

“How strange,” he tweeted on February 4. “I am receiving images of something amazing coming towards us — travelling over decades through space and time — reaching out to all humans on this planet with its message. What could it be? Should I be afraid? Should you? Stay tuned.”

Star Wars fans immediately sprung into action, ready for whatever juicy Episode IX spoilers Daniels was preparing to release. Instead, the actor proceeded to tweet a serious of increasingly nonsensical clues while also appearing to promote an upcoming book.

Then, on March 4, Daniels tweeted another coded message, writing:

“IX SPOILER … NOT…TITLE …NOT …TRAILER NOT….. IMPORTANT… IS… NOT QUITE SURE… LOOKS LIKE OLD CODE….. D EG HTTOIUNAI DM ENALILON ETCT T NTCW AL TDOEEIGBI LR BHCNHNOAG AI AICNIEE…. REMEMBER… YOU ARE YOUR ONLY HOPE TILL… COMS FAILING… WEAK SIGNAL… INCO”

This time, a fan managed to crack the code (it’s an anagram), sharing the results on Reddit a few hours later. Here’s what it means:

“I AM DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT I WILL BE ATTENDING CELEBRATION IN CHICAGO”

I deciphered the Anthony Daniels tweet. It sucks. from starwarsspeculation.

So you can expect to see Daniels, along with much of the Star Wars: Episode IX cast, at Star Wars Celebration next month. At this point, it seems all but guaranteed that we won’t get any official details about the movie until then. Of course, it’s possible Lucasfilm could reveal the title or even drop a short trailer in March, but it’s far more likely that the big reveal will come during the April event.

The guest list includes Star Wars movie icons like Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and more. We’re also expecting new details on EA’s upcoming Star Wars video game, Jedi: Fallen Order, and Disney Galaxy’s Edge theme park expansions. However, it seems clear that Episode IX will dominate the event as we finally learn the movie’s title and hopefully much, much more.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
