'Avengers: Endgame' Spoilers: Leaked Lego Teases the Return of an Old Hero
by Mae AbdulbakiA recent Lego toy leak of Iron Man’s suit might mean a long forgotten character will return in Avengers: Endgame. Dum-E, Tony Stark’s adorable robot arm from the original Iron Man, is apparently included in a new Lego toy set alongside Iron Man. But is this the work of time travel or something else?
The leaked Avengers: Endgame Lego, which was posted to Instagram, showcased Iron Man in a white suit with the classic red and gold helmet. Dum-E is included in the same package, meaning the robot could be making a surprise appearance in Endgame to help Iron Man and the rest of the remaining Avengers. There are two possible reasons behind Dum-E’s return. The first being that we might see Dum-E in Tony’s lab after he is somehow saved from space. The other is that the Avengers will be time traveling and that’s when Tony will come face-to-face with Dum-E.
Inverse is posing a few theories of its own with Inverse String Theory, ahead of the premiere of Avengers: Endgame
Dum-E was a helpful and innocent robot who first appeared and aided in saving Tony’s life in Iron Man, but it looks like this automaton has gotten some updates on the years since. Specifically, the old claw has been replaced with what appears to be a flamethrower, which only solidifies to comparisons between Tony Stark and Elon Musk. Could Tony have tweaked Dum-E? Or will someone else make those upgrades.
While seeing Dum-E in Tony’s lab at some point is possible, time travel is probably the more likely of the two options. Toy leaks have often teased everything from which characters could appear in Endgame to the white and red suits they’ll wear in the new movie, presumably so they can travel through time via the Quantum Realm.
So the fact that Dum-E is included in a toy set that has a white Iron Man suit rather than the classic red and gold one says a lot. The white suit has never before been seen in previous movies and could make its debut in Endgame. Whether it’s before or after the Avengers discover they can use the Quantum Realm to travel to a time before Thanos’ Decimation remains to be seen.
Regardless, it seems likely that when Iron Man and the rest of the team travel back in time in Avengers: Endgame they’ll be greeted by at least one familiar face that isn’t their own: Dum-E. And if this robot arm lives up to its reputation in the original Iron Man, it could play a big role in the mission to defeat Thanos and undo the Snap.
Avengers: Endgame is in theaters April 26, 2019.
