'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Spoilers: Series Ends "in a Very Fulfilled Way"
by Meredith JacobsWith just over two months until Game of Thrones Season 8 premieres on HBO, we’re practically dying to find out how the story will end. HBO is being very careful about spoilers — we don’t even have an official trailer yet! — but various GoT stars keep offering hints and clues about how Season 8 will play out, and the latest teaser is a good one.
Speaking to IndieWire, Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont) offered his take on how fans will respond to the Game of Thrones Season 8 ending.
“I was in awe at the writing finesse,” he said, “that it just realized everything in a very fulfilled way,” he said. “I thought it was brilliant, yet beautiful.”
That’s good news for fans worried Game of Thrones won’t stick the landing, though it’s not that different from what we’ve already heard.
Kit Harington (Jon Snow) said that fans may not be “happy” but should be “very satisfied” after the finale during an appearance on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. He also compared it to grieving a “loss” when you finish a book.
So it sounds like fans should expect Game of Thrones Season 8 to resolve most of the show’s unanswered questions and feature the death of at least one or two fan-favorite characters. Hopefully, it won’t also leave you feeling empty that you just wasted years of your life.
While what happens is a secret from the world as a whole, it wasn’t such for the cast. There have been television shows where actors don’t receive the entire script for episodes, but that wasn’t the case with Game of Thrones Season 8.
“The knowledge you gain about the story, the telling, and the themes that are involved … you piece your little journey into that,” Glen told IndieWire. “We should be given the material. We always got to read everything before we started.”
Since Glen was speaking about the series’ ending as a whole, we can’t necessarily determine what happens with his character. However, he did address where Jorah is at the beginning of the final season.
“I think he’s very, very relieved and content to be back inside Daenerys’ good favor,” he said. “He’s well placed to try and to look after her. Through all the seasons, he’s ebbed and flowed with her, and now he’s well set, so that’s where he is.”
However, being at Daenerys’ side could mean trouble for Ser Jorah Mormont since she’s likely going to be right in the middle of everything during Season 8. And just because he’s in a good place at the beginning doesn’t mean he’ll necessarily be in one at the end. Let’s just hope he survives.
After all, hasn’t he been through enough already?
Game of Thrones Season 8 premieres Sunday, April 14 at 9 p.m. on HBO.
