'Arrow' Season 7 Spoilers: Episode 13 May Solve a Huge Flashforward Mystery

by Meredith Jacobs

Arrow Season 7 featured a new method of storytelling in the premiere: flashforwards to when Star City fell and the Glades rose. These glimpses into the future have not only shown us which characters will survive the next 20 years, they’ve also introduced a few new mysteries that need to be addressed. It looks like one of them about Dinah could be solved in the present day in the next episode of Arrow Season 7.

Spoilers for Arrow Season 7 below.

The flashforwards began with William following GPS coordinates in the hozen Felicity gave him to Lian Yu, where he found Roy had exiled himself for reasons unknown. The hozen eventually led them back to Star City and what once was Smoak Technologies, and they assumed Felicity was guiding them.

However, they then ran into an old friend, Dinah Drake, who informed them Felicity recently died. She also supposedly became evil, two “facts” I don’t believe. There has to be a twist.

In the future, Dinah has a scar across her neck, from an injury that presumably keeps her from using her metahuman canary cry.

How did Dinah get that scar across her throat in the 'Arrow' Season 7 flashforwards?

The CW

She uses that same cry in the present in Season 7 Episode 12, “Emerald Archer,” to save the mayor during an attack, outing herself as the Black Canary.

But she may not have that ability for long, considering the promo for Episode 13 (above) hints at how she may be losing it. In “Star City Slayer,” the team is once again in trouble.

THE TEAM IS TARGETED — Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) are disappointed after they learn that William (guest star Jack Moore) is hiding something from them. Wanting to focus on his family, Oliver steps back from his Green Arrow duties and lets the team take over tracking down a serial killer. However, when the team becomes targets for the killer, things take a bloody turn.

It’s 14 seconds into the preview that we see a pair of scissors and then what looks like Dinah being attacked and something slashing near her throat.

Of course, it could clearly just be misdirection. Would they really reveal such a big moment in a promo? They could, hoping fans would blink and miss it.

And would Arrow really take Dinah’s cry just as she’s been outed as the Black Canary and the team has been deputized to work with the SCPD? There are, after all, 20 years between the present and the flashforwards to do so.

Then again, the Star City Slayer is hunting the team and leaving them notes that he’ll kill them all. Obviously that won’t happen because we know that at the very least, Felicity, William, Dinah, and Rene survive to serve the flashforward storyline. However, shouldn’t the Slayer leave his mark in some way?

We know Oliver won’t be killed because this is Oliver’s show.

While we have yet to see Diggle in the future, he has too much going on in the present to be killed. He restarted the Suicide Squad as the Ghost Initiative at ARGUS, and it’s filled with people who want Oliver dead, like Diaz. That has to play out, and Oliver has to find out, and it wouldn’t have the same impact if Diggle’s not around for that.

Curtis, however, is not safe. In the future, Dinah didn’t list him as those who have the Mark of Four, a tattoo the team gets. That leaves him and Dinah’s throat as possible victims of the Star City Slayer (or any future threat to the team in the present storyline).

Here’s what we do know: Dinah will presumably give her last canary cry at some point. And it’s possible she already has.

Arrow Season 7 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
