The Latest in Recently Discovered Manuscripts: Tolkien
First Harper Lee. Then Dr. Seuss. Now Tolkien.
This summer, we’ve all been living in a Dan Brown novel. Between Harper Lee, Dr. Seuss, and F.Scott Fitzgerald, recently discovered manuscripts have been turning up at an unbelievable rate. And now there’s one more to add: Tolkien.
Called “The Story of Kullervo,” it will hit UK bookstores in August and US bookstores in October. This is the official synopsis, supplied by the publisher:
Brought up in the homestead of the dark magician Untamo, who killed his father, kidnapped his mother, and who tries three times to kill him when still a boy, Kullervo is alone save for the love of his twin sister, Wanona, and guarded by the magical powers of the black dog, Musti. When Kullervo is sold into slavery he swears revenge on the magician, but he will learn that even at the point of vengeance there is no escape from the cruellest of fates.
Sounds intriguingly dark.
Let’s hope this is being published in the same vein as the Dr. Seuss story and not the Harper Lee one.
