'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Spoilers: HBO Star Has a Shocking Theory
"That would be the most unexpected way to end a series I think I’ve ever seen."
by Jake KleinmanRay Fisher is a huge HBO fan, which is a good thing since he’s also one of the stars of the network’s latest series, True Detective Season 3. (Oh, and he’s Cyborg in Justice League.) But perhaps most important of all, Fisher really loves Game of Thrones. He’s even got a theory about how Season 8 will end, but first, let’s listen to the actor geek out about everyone’s favorite fantasy show.
“I just love the mythology,” Fisher tells Inverse, “and I love being able to track the characters. You know it’s very much like True Detective. They did a very good job of painting all these characters in such different lights that it’s interesting to watch.”
The topic of Game of Thrones, which is gearing up for an eight and final season this spring, comes up naturally with just a bit of prodding. When asked what other HBO show he’d want to be one (besides True Detective, of course), Fisher barely takes a second to respond.
“Game of Thrones, oh my god, easy,” he says. “That’d be a no brainer.”
Fisher isn’t exactly sure how he might fit into the current series, but he’s already hatching a plan to get into the Game of Thrones universe.
“I know they’ve got the Game of Thrones spinoff happening,” he says. “I think it’s a prequel situation.”
Did you hear that, HBO? Please put Ray Fisher in the Game of Thrones prequel.
As for that theory, Fisher’s clearly put a lot of thought into it. He doesn’t hesitate at all when asked how he thinks Game of Thrones Season 8 will end.
“The Night King’s gonna win,” he says. “I’d put my money on the Night King. Could you imagine? How crazy would that be? If after all these seasons they’re just like, ‘You know what? The Night King should win.’”
As “crazy” as it might be, Fisher makes a convincing argument that Night King not only deserves to win Game of Thrones, but that it’s also the best possible outcome for the series.
“You know, he hasn’t betrayed anybody,” Fisher says. His objective has been clear the entire time, and you know the human beings they just couldn’t get it together. So here comes the long winter. That would be the most unexpected way to end a series I think I’ve ever seen, and I think Game of Thrones would get so much street cred. It’d be ridiculous.”
Ridiculous? Maybe. But as we’ve argued before, it would also be a pretty fitting end for the entire series.
True Detective airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO. Game of Thrones Season 8 premieres on April 14.
