'Fortnite' X-4 Stormwing Plane Timed Trials: How to Complete the Challenge

The hardest plane challenge yet.

by Corey Plante

If you haven’t already mastered Fortnite: Battle Royale’s X-4 Stormwing planes then it’s officially time to git gud. One of Fortnite Season 7, Week 9 challenges combines the airplanes with timed trials for a fun airborne challenge.

Fortnite Season 7, Week 9 challenges were unlocked Thursday morning. One challenge has players destroy 10 golden balloons and another has them dance on top of a sundial, an oversized cup of coffee, and a giant metal dog head. But yet another challenge has players complete timed trials, except these require players to do them in airplanes.

First and foremost, players will need to actually find an X-4 Stormwing to fly around. That shouldn’t be too hard. There are always some at Frosty Flights and usually around the exhibition outposts.

Once players have the plane, they’ll have to complete two of the available three timed trials.

The three timed trials are enormous and very easy to spot, but finding a plane and finishing these present the real challenge.

We might recommend skipping the one south of Lonely Lodge, as it’s quite difficult and took us four or so tries. Midway through, you have to spiral dive straight down and pivot inland to hit a specific mark. By comparison, the trial south of Frosty Flights is fairly straightforward, requiring players to navigate close to the water and in between glaciers. That being said, we managed to complete both of these in a single match to beat the challenge.

In any instance, if you’re trying to complete the whole challenge in a single match will need to work with their starting battle bus trajectory and the path of the storm. Ideally start with a location that’s an outlier and then work your way towards the storm’s center for the second one.

It’s important to stay somewhat low when traversing across the island. Flying high makes it easier for players on the ground to spot the plane and shoot it. Even more dangerous are enemy players in other planes.

But any pilot with a good command of the boost and break features should be able to manage the timed trials.

The in-game countdown says that Fortnite Season 7 doesn’t end until February 27, 2019. So players have just under a month to complete this and other challenges before Season 8 is upon us, bringing all sorts of new map changes and challenges with it.
