'Kingdom Hearts 3': Secret Ending, Secret Movie, and Secret Boss Battles

Plus, secret boss battles.

by Jake Kleinman

For a game about hopping between Disney-themed worlds and wielding a giant, magic key as a weapon, the Kingdom Hearts series is surprisingly deep and complicated, and Kingdom Hearts III is no different. Not only does the latest entry in the series deliver more of that complex and convoluted story fans love, it’s also brimming with secrets to unlock, from secret bosses and secret endings to a yet-to-be-released “secret movie.”

Here’s everything you need to know about these Kingdom Hearts 3 secrets.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Secret Ending — The Epilogue

Kingdom Hearts developer Square Enix did something interesting with its latest game, it released KH3 without an ending. That’s not because there isn’t one, it’s because the company wanted to ensure that if the game leaked (which it did) the actual ending wouldn’t be spoiled. So instead, a final secret ending epilogue scene was released in an early.

To watch the epilogue you need to beat the game and download the latest update. Kingdom hearts III will then tell you there’s a new video available in Theater mode called “Lost Masters” for you to watch.

The video itself takes place in the Keyblade graveyard and dives deep into Kingdom Hearts lore. You’ll see a bunch of characters you probably don’t remember like Luxu and Ava, but don’t expect to get any updates on Sora.

If you’re confused after watching Kingdom Hearts 3’s secret ending, Polygon has a detailed explanation of everything that happens.

Kingdom Hearts 3 “Secret Movie”

That secret epilogue isn’t the only closure coming to Kingdom Hearts fans. There’s also a “secret movie” coming, according to KH3 director Tetsuya Nomura.

“The game’s epilogue and secret movie, which are the biggest spoilers in this game, are planned to be released at a later date just in case,” Nomura told fans ahead of the launch (via BBC). “So they will not be shown before the game’s release.”

It sure sounds like that secret movie is still coming, and it whatever it reveals could be pretty juicy.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Secret Bosses — Battlegates

After beating the game, you can go back and re-fight previous bosses in KH3 to unlock special items. These Battlegates feature beefed up versions of the original boss, and they’re located at the gates where you originally began each battle.

According to Newsweek, the only Battlegate currently available is located in the Keyblade Graveyard, where you’ll have to take on Dark Inferno. This was already one of the most difficult bosses to begin with, making your rematch extremely difficult. It might even be tougher than the game’s final boss Xehanort. Good luck!

Kingdom Hearts III is available now for PS4 and Xbox One.
