'Legacies' Episode 8 Spoilers: Why We're Due for an 'Originals' Cameo

by Meredith Jacobs

Just because a show can have a cameo or two doesn’t mean it should. However, in the case of Legacies, both its origins and current storyline make guest appearances from The Vampire Diaries and The Originals stars logical, and possibly necessary as the series seems to be quickly losing the interest of early fans.

The freshman series on The CW is a spin-off of The Originals, which was a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, and while it’s done a good job of separating itself to stand on its own, Legacies still acknowledges its origins. We’ve noticed a few references to past characters helping out off-screen, but why not bring back more familiar faces instead of just talking about them?

Yes, scheduling can be an issue, but the series could really benefit from another guest appearance soon, and this one should be someone from The Originals. So far, we’ve seen Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig), Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), and Jo (Jodi Lynn O’Keefe), all characters who have a connection to Alaric (Matthew Davis).

However, the series follows Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), whom viewers met on The Originals. While her parents are both dead, she does have family and friends still alive, and considering that they’re dealing with creatures that shouldn’t exist and trying to keep Malivore closed, why not have someone show up to offer some help?

If anyone does appear, they shouldn’t stay for longer than an episode. This is Hope’s show and it needs to stand on its own two legs, but we’ve already gotten a tease that she was sending her new friend, Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) to see someone she knows in New Orleans.

Creator Julie Plec told TVLine that friend was Vincent, though he wouldn’t be seen on-screen.

The series could also bring back someone from twins Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Josie (Kaylee Bryant) Saltzman’s past: The Vampire Diaries’ Kai (Christopher Wood), their uncle. Though he is currently trapped in a prison world, Legacies could find a way around that. We know that Caroline (Candice King) is off trying to find a way to make sure the twins don’t have to go through the Merge when they turn 22. As witches in the Gemini coven, when the twins turn 22, the stronger one is supposed to take the weaker’s powers, leaving the weaker twin dead.

Plec told TV Guide that she has “massive plans” for a way that Kai could show up on Legacies.

Though they still have years before they turn 22, the twins are in the dark about what could be coming. Having Kai be the one to reveal the truth would be a massive blow.

Legacies Season 1 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.
