The end is nigh for the Marvel/Netflix universe, but before the final cancellation happens, Frank Castle is returning to the streaming service for The Punisher Season 2. Release time for the series is almost here, but when exactly can you start watching binging The Punisher Season 2? Here’s what you need to know.

The Punisher Season 2 is set to release on Netflix on January 18, and since all new Netflix shows and movies debut at 3 a.m. Eastern that means you can start watching tonight if you stay up late enough. The reason Netflix launches new originals so late is that it’s going by California time, where the company is based. So if you’re on the West coast you can start watching at a more reasonable midnight.
It might be tempting to binge through The Punisher Season 2, but considering that this is likely the last we’ll see of Frank Castle (at least for a while), it’s probably worth taking your time. Netflix recently went on a cancellation spree, killing off three of its Defenders in the form of Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil. That last one was particularly surprising because of the immense popularity of Daredevil Season 3.
After The Punisher Season 2, we still have Jessica Jones Season 3 to look forward to at some point in 2019, but unless Netflix decides to surprise us that’s probably it. After that, Netflix’s contract with Marvel apparently blocks any of those characters from appearing in other shows or movies for at least a few years, though it’s been suggested that Marvel could buy it’s way out of that contract if it really wanted to get Daredevil into the next Avengers film.
It’s a long shot, but for now, it’s probably the best we can hope for.
The Punisher Season 2 hits Netflix on January 18.
