'Avengers 4: Endgame' Spoilers: Marvel May Have Confirmed a Popular Theory
by Jake KleinmanNo one outside of Marvel knows how Avengers: Endgame will end, but thanks to one leak we do know to expect an even “greater threat” than Thanos. Most fans assumed that this was referring to some other powerful alien being, but what if that threat is actually one of the Infinity Stones? Specifically, the Mind Stone.
Plenty of fan theories in the past have speculated that the Mind Stone may have its own agenda and the power to manipulate its user (a bit like the One Ring in The Lord of the Rings), giving it influence over Marvel characters who attempted to use it like Loki, Vision, and Thanos. If that’s the case, then perhaps the Mind Stone’s true intentions will be revealed in Avengers: Endgame, but in the meantime, we have some strong new evidence that the Mind Stone could be even more powerful than it seems.
An official character summary for Loki on Marvel’s website reveals that this is exactly what happened.
Offering the God of Mischief dominion over his brother’s favorite realm Earth, Thanos requested the Tesseract in return. Gifted with a Scepter that acted as a mind control device, Loki would be able to influence others. Unbeknownst to him, the Scepter was also influencing him, fueling his hatred over his brother Thor and the inhabitants of Earth.
So there you have it, evidence that the Mind Stone influenced Loki. If it could control the God of Mischief, who’s to say the same Infinity Stone couldn’t also influence Thanos?
Marvel’s website doesn’t mention anything about that on Thanos’s official biopage, but it’s worth noting that the Mad Titan doesn’t acquire that stone until the very end of Infinity War. So it didn’t really have much time to influence him.
It’s possible we could see the Mind Stone’s plans for Thanos play out in Avengers: Endgame, and based on exactly when that movie picks after the events of Infinity War, the stone may have already exerted its influence over Thanos when the sequel begins.
Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26, 2019.
