'Star Wars' Trailer: Galaxy's Edge Teaser Debuts, but Still No 'Episode 9'

It’s not Star Wars: Episode IX, but Disney still managed to release a trailer for Star Wars fans this Christmas. A new teaser for the Galaxy’s Edge theme park attraction debuted during the Disney Parks Christmas Parade on ABC, revealing our most detailed look yet at this immersive Star Wars experience.

The trailer, which you can watch above, focuses on two distinct experience: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. The first is exactly what it sounds like, putting you in the iconic ship where you’ll serve as a pilot, gunner, or engineer as part of a team, according to Scott Trowbridge, a creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering.

“The experience on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run puts you straight in the cockpit right behind the controls,” Trowbridge says. “It is gonna be an intense, super fun experience on the fastest ship in the galaxy.”

Meanwhile, Rise of the Resistance is basically a prequel to The Force Awakens, putting you in the shoes of a Resistance recruit. You’ll even meet Kylo Ren in what Trowbridge calls “the most epic attraction we’ve ever built.”

And this is just the beginning. As Lucasfilm Story Group vice president Carrie Beck explains, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will continue to evolve over time with new attractions and experiences.

“This land will be living and breathing and evolving,” she says.

We still don’t know exactly when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open, but it’s expected to debut at both Disneyland in Anaheim, California and Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida sometime in 2019. In the meantime, you can also get a more detailed look at progress on the California location in the drone footage below.
