4 Ways 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Could End for Arya Stark

by Meredith Jacobs

HBO is promoting Game of Thrones Season 8 with a “For the Throne” campaign, but just because these characters have stuck around long enough for a shot at the Iron Thron doesn’t mean they want it.

Take Arya, would the Stark daughter accept a position of power if it was offered to her? And will she even have the chance? Here’s what we know based on a recent interview with Game of Thrones actor Maisie Williams.

Potential spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 8 below.

In an October interview with The Guardian, Williams called her last scene “beautiful” and “perfect.”

“I was alone — shocker,” she continued. “Arya’s always bloody alone.”

It’s unclear if this “final scene” is the last time we see Arya or simple the final scene Williams filmed. But assuming its the former, that certainly sets up some interest possibilities for where the character could be headed in Game of Thrones Season 8.

Here are three ways Game of Thrones could end for Arya Stark.

Will Arya end up on the Iron Throne in 'Game of Thrones' Season 8?

3. Arya Takes the Iron Throne

This would fit if she’s alone in her final scene. The Iron Throne is so important to the series that the last shot of the finale could simply be whoever’s sitting on it. If it’s Arya, it would explain why Williams was “alone.”

What if Arya is the last one standing who could claim the Iron Throne? We know Arya is a warrior, which should come into play in the big battle against the Army of the Dead in the final season.

However, just because she earns the seat doesn’t mean she’ll want it.

2. Arya Sets Off on Another Adventure

One fan argues that the Arya we know would never stick around in Kings Landing forever.

“Arya claimed she wanted to go beyond the shadowlands and explore uncharted waters. Secondly Arya named her wolf Nymeria, who was a princess that sailed across the seas searching for a new home for her people,” redditor u/Aeiexgjhyoun_III writes. “Arya is going to leave Westeros and explore the regions beyond the map.”

Arya isn’t someone you can see settling down and doing nothing after the battle. So this would be one way to give fans an idea of what’s next for her character without saying anything too definitive about her future.

1. Arya Dies

Sorry for even putting this image in your head, but it would explain why Williams said she was alone in her final scene.

This could explain why Williams’ final scene was “alone.” (It’s probably best not to read into the “bloody alone” part of that answer since that’s just British slang and there’s no way, with how careful HBO is being about leaks, that could actually be a tease.)

What if Arya dies in battle? That may be a “perfect” ending for her character since she has become a warrior.

Game of Thrones Season 8 will premiere in April 2019 on HBO.
