'The Walking Dead' Season 9 Spoilers: Why Dwight (and 3 Others) May Return

While The Walking Dead universe and its groups of survivors keep expanding (including the upcoming Rick Grimes movies), there are several characters out there whose fates remain unresolved. With the new villains, The Whisperers, now a threat, the survivors can use all the help they can get.

One Walking Dead actor recently revealed that their character is still alive and might just return in Season 9. On that note, here are a few other missing survivors that could pop up again this season or at some point in the future.

Spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 9 below.

The first half of Season 9 saw the survivors lose at least three major characters. Rick is presumed dead (but was flown actually off in a helicopter). Meanwhile, Maggie left at some point during the six-year time jump after Rick’s “death” to join Georgie’s group, and Jesus was killed by a Whisperer in the midseason finale.

We also met Magna and her group of survivors in The Walking Dead Season 9. While the world has to expand because there have to be more people out there who have survived the undead, wouldn’t it be nice to get at least one blast from the past in a season where characters have left? It can’t all be about the new.

So, which characters should return in Seasons 9 or 10?

Dwight

Dwight was a Savior (and one of the worst), but he did help out the survivors before he set out to find his wife, Sherry. He and Daryl might not be on good terms, but they could probably put that aside to fight the Whisperers.

Austin Amelio confirmed his character is still alive at New Jersey’s Walker Stalker Con this weekend, Insider reported. “We don’t know if I’m off the show,” he said.

So if anyone is coming back in The Walking Dead Season 9, there’s a pretty decent chance it’s Dwight.

Sherry

Bringing back Sherry would allow the series to explore who she is away from Negan, who took her from Dwight.

However, remember that couples rarely get happy endings on The Walking Dead (and they haven’t had a happy middle, either). So it may be better for their relationship if both of them stay away.

Heath

Heath is completely MIA on The Walking Dead. He and Tara were out on a supply run in Season 7 when they were separated, and that was it. No one knows if he’s alive or dead. It’s not even clear if any of the other survivors even remember he existed.

That’s because Corey Hawkins hasn’t been able to return due to his schedule, but it’s possible that could change following the cancellation of his other show, 24: Legacy.

Georgie’s group

We know Maggie’s with her, and it is possible that Lauren Cohan could return to the show at some point (just not before Season 10). If Maggie does come back, Georgie and her group should come with her. We know they’re providing supplies to the Hilltop, so there’s already a relationship there.
