'Mindhunter' Season 2 Cast Adding Kids for "Atlanta Child Murders" Plot
An open casting call was recently held at the University of California in Pennsylvania.
by Jake KleinmanWe still don’t know when Mindhunter Season 2 will release on Netflix, but production on new episodes of the serial killer-obsessed series is already in full swing. At a recent casting call, Mindhunter auditioned children for a new plot line focused on the infamous Atlanta murders of 1979–’81.
The casting call took place at the California University of Pennsylvania and also featured a Q&A session with Mindhunter extras casting associate Trevor Neil Williams. The event was organized by Dr. Emily Sweitzer, a professor of psychology at the University, and Sweitzer tells Inverse that while the event didn’t reveal much about Season 2 of Mindhunter, it did provide some insight into how the new episodes are shaping up, specifically when it comes to one specific story from upcoming season.
“The only thing they did say about the next season is that one of the plots is going to be the Atlanta Child Murders,” Sweitzer says, noting that the casting call included people of all ages, from students to professors to “some children.”
Back in 2017, series composer Jason Hill revealed that Mindhunter Season 2 would explore the Atlanta Child Murders, which were carried out between 1979 and ‘81 and attributed to Wayne Williams. The series will also turn its focus to Charles Manson, who was also discussed during the recent event, Sweitzer says.
Dr. Sweitzer consults on a variety of crime-related shows including Blacklist, CSI, Bones, Lucifer to help series creators get inside the minds of deviant criminals. However, she says that Mindhunter, which focuses on criminal profiling, hasn’t relied on any consultants. At least, not yet.
“They said they’re going to be considering it,” she says. “They haven’t used any consultants for the program, but I guess the possibility exists.”
Unfortunately, we still don’t know when Mindhunter Season 2 will debut (it’s expected some time in 2019). But, for now, the show’s creators are doing everything they can to keep any more secrets from leaking out.
“They couldn’t relay anything about the new season obviously for license reasons with Netflix,” Sweitzer says. “We were actually going to tape the event for the university but we weren’t allowed to for legal reasons.”
Mindhunter Season 2 will likely release on Netflix in 2019. In the meantime, check out what’s coming to the streaming service for December 2018
