'Star Wars Episode 9' Rumors: Leak Claims Naomi Ackiee Is Lando's Daughter

by Corey Plante

Very little is confirmed about what goes down in Star Wars: Episode IX, but a recent set leak might’ve just revealed who actress Naomi Ackie is playing in the upcoming adventure. If it turns out to be true, then she’s got a huge connection to a beloved character from the original trilogy.

Big spoilers potentially follow for Star Wars: Episode IX.

A redditor going by the name Temiriblagg1 posted to the /r/StarWarsSpeculation subreddit last week, claiming to have been an extra on the set of Star Wars: Episode IX at Pinewood Studios in England where filming is currently underway. For the scene, they claimed to be part of a “guerilla militia in a secret type of bunker on the planet of Batuu.” (Previous set details indicate Batuu is a major setting in the film.)

The redditor claims that in one scene, Poe, Finn and Chewbacca interact with actor Dom Monaghan in a “very cool costume.” But the most interesting detail comes when Temiriblagg1 writes, “Naomi Ackie is here as Veranada (Vera) Calrissian.”

In other words, Ackie might be playing Lando Calrissian’s daughter.

This obviously leads to so many interesting questions: Did she know Kylo Ren when they were younger? Has she ever met Luke Skywalker? Who is her mother? How does she feel about the Millennium Falcon, the ship that originally belonged to her father? Does she see Leia Organa and Han Solo like an aunt and uncle?

Previously, we theorized Ackie’s character could be the rumored “young alien prodigy” who supposedly helps the good guys navigate unknown regions of space, but this new leak indicates otherwise. In both cases, however, we’re dealing with supposed “leaks” via Reddit, so who knows what’s real or what isn’t?

We do know that Lando Calrissian’s return was confirmed in July. Actor Billy Dee Williams is definitely reprising his role as the original Lando Calrissian in Episode IX. If Ackie is playing Vera, then maybe Lando will introduce his daughter to the audience?

“Naomi’s character says they found something valuable at the cost of losing several soldiers,” the redditor writes, describing a skirmish after the Resistance lands on the planet. That’s all we really hear about her, but it seems like she’s part of the local group of rebels on Batuu.

If all this turns out to be true, then it might connect the plot of Star Wars: Battlefront II’s “Resurrection” directly to Episode IX in an interesting way.

It was revealed in Star Wars: Battlefront II that after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Lando continued working with the Rebellion to fight the remaining Imperial forces. But there’s still a couple decades in his timeline that are unnaccounted for.

The very end of Battlefront II’s “Resurrection” DLC, however, hints that the Resistance has allies in the Outer Rim territories. In light of this new information, those allies could very well be Lando and his daughter.

In “Resurrection,” former Imperial agent Iden Versio has her daughter Zay deliver the plans for the First Order dreadnaught to the Resistance mere minutes before The Last Jedi begins (essentially making it possible for Poe Dameron to destroy it in the opening minutes). General Organa also gives Zay an “urgent mission” to find Resistance “allies in the Outer Rim.”

It’s unlikely that Battlefront II characters would make their way into a live-action Star Wars movie, but all of these leaked details are starting to form the connective tissue between separate parts of Star Wars canon. We’ve still got a long wait, however, before we learn whether any of these leaks and theories are true.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release December 19, 2019.
