'The Lego Movie 2' Trailer Teams Up Chris Pratt With ... Chris Pratt
Chris Pratt meets his on-screen personas in the sequel to 2014's 'The Lego Movie.'
by Eric FranciscoSo much has changed since 2014’s The Lego Movie. Everything used to be awesome, but in the sequel The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, everything is apocalyptic. And when things hit the fan, Chris Pratt’s Emmet will have to team up with a new character, Rex Dangervest, also voiced by Pratt in a spoof of his other major roles, including Star-Lord and what’s-his-face from Jurassic World.
On Tuesday, Warner Bros. released a new trailer for The Lego Movie 2, written by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord and directed by Mike Mitchell (Trolls). Set five years after the original, Bricksburg is now a Mad Max-esque wasteland, which has done nothing to dampen the spirits of the everyman optimist Emmet. But when all his friends are kidnapped, including Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) and Batman (Will Arnett), Emmet teams up with “Rex Dangervest,” a devil may cry hero styled after Pratt’s many action movie roles.
Rex is introduced in the trailer as a “galaxy defending” (Star-Lord, Guardians of the Galaxy), “cowboy” (The Magnificent Seven), “raptor trainer” (Jurassic World). He is also an “archaeologist,” which references popular rumor that Pratt could, at some point, take over for Harrison Ford as the new Indiana Jones.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Lego gang return in the sequel, including even everyone’s favorite goofy blue spaceman. Lego Batman is as brooding and stubborn as ever, and has also donned his own “apocalypse” body brick that looks not unlike his “Knightmare” outfit from Batman v Superman.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part builds its way into theaters in February 2019.
