She-Ra and the Princesses of Power launched on Netflix in November 2018, but fans won’t have to wait a full year for Season 2. Hot of the hells of its official renewal, here’s everything we know about the She-Ra Season 2 trailer, release date, spoilers, and more.
Is She-Ra Season 2 Happening?
Yes! Netflix confirmed that the show would be renewed on January 25, though it didn’t come as much of a surprise.
While it still hasn’t been confirmed, there’s reason to be hopeful for a She-Ra Season 2 release. Netflix has a pretty good track record of quickly renewing its animated shows, from Voltron (currently heading into its eighth and final season) to Disenchantment (recently renewed for several more years). So assuming She-Ra isn’t a total flop, you can probably expect to see more soon.
Showrunner Noelle Stevenson also recently confirmed that she at least has plans for more She-Ra beyond Season 1. Speaking to Animation Magazine, she actually revealed that a four-season arc has already been mapped out. So hopefully, we’ll get to see that play out onscreen.
What Kind of Plot Can We Expect From She-Ra Season 2
She-Ra Season 1 mostly focused on assembling the Princess Alliance, ending with a climactic battle between the forces of good and evil (led by Catra) with She-Ra prevailing over her old friend. So we can probably expect to see the princesses continue to push back against the Evil Horde and its leader Hordak in Season 2.
At the same time, don’t count out Catra just yet. As second-in-command of the Evil Horde, she’ll be a key antagonist in Season 2, and she’s likely looking for vengeance after that last battle didn’t go her way.
When Will the She-Ra Season 2 Release Date Be?
Assuming it does happen, it’s tough to say exactly when the new season will arrive. Netflix doesn’t stick to a yearly schedule for most shows, and often pumps out short seasons throughout the year.
So assuming She-Ra gets renewed soon, we could see Season 2 arrive as early as Summer 2019. At the very least, you can probably expect new episodes about a year after the Season 1 debut, meaning November 2019.
Will He-Man be in She-Ra Season 2?
Probably not. Back at New York Comic Con, Stevenson suggested that this version of She-Ra exists in a world without He-Man, so it’s unlikely we’ll see him pop-up in Season 2.
“This is a world where she’s not trying to outshine or live up to the reputation of He-Man,” said.
However, as Nerdist points out, the new She-Ra does feature a handful of Easter eggs that suggest He-Man might still exist in this universe, though he may currently be located in another dimension entirely.
Ultimately, the status of He-Man in any future She-Ra seasons likely depends on whether Netflix/Dreamworks can get the rights to the hero. So don’t count on it, though we wouldn’t rule out a cameo or even an entire spin-off just yet.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
