'Aquaman' Post-Credits Spoilers: Rumors Suggest Black Manta Could Be Key
by Eric FranciscoSitting through the end credits is the standard ritual for superhero film fandom, but DC movies haven’t exactly tapped into that well as often as Marvel. However, rumors indicate that Aquaman will have at least a mid-credits scene that you definitely won’t want to miss.
Potential spoilers for Aquaman ahead.
Warner Bros. recently began advanced screenings of Aquaman for the general public, reports the film blog Rerelease News, a film site that provides updates on “Movie Theater Comebacks, Fathom Events, Special Screenings, and more.” What’s more, their sources revealed that Aquaman has a mid-credits scene.
Back in July, Discussing Film separately reported that Aquaman’s credits scene establishes Aquaman villain Black Manta (played by Yahya Abdul Mateen II) as a greater threat in a scene shared with comedian/actor Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat, Ant-Man and The Wasp), who plays Dr. Stephen Shin.
While Aquaman will have Mateen II’s Black Manta (whose costume is one of the coolest movie villains in the history of cinema), the film will primarily feature Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master, Aquaman’s half-brother who seeks to claim the throne of Atlantis.
Whether any of this is true is still officially unconfirmed, as press screenings for Aquaman haven’t begun and the film doesn’t hit theaters until December 21. However, it’s no secret that Black Manta will show up in the film, we just don’t know how big of a role he’ll play in the larger DCEU.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has released a new behind the scenes video for Aquaman, in which director James Wan and actors Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Wilson, and Mateen II talking up the film as unlike any other superhero movie before. Watch it below.
