'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Premiere Date Is Revealed in New Video From HBO
by Meredith JacobsThe number one question on the mind of every Game of Thrones fan is simple: When will Season 8 premiere? We’re as close as we’ve ever been to that answer, as HBO announced the month the series will premiere with a reminder of the number one goal at hand: the Iron Throne.
“Every battle, every betrayal, every alliance, every risk, every fight, every sacrifice, every oath, every death is all for the throne,” teases the video announcement (embedded above) featuring footage from the previous seasons, before revealing that the show’s final six episodes will premiere in April 2019.
The video also introduces a new #ForTheThrone ad campaign designed to highlight how far each character has gone in their quest to claim the Iron Throne. HBO says it hopes it can also convince “fans to re-watch the series and potential new viewers to watch the series for the first time before the final season begins,” according to a press release.
The first part of the campaign is the video announcement, but we also got new character posters on the series’ official social media accounts that show what each has done in the quest #ForTheThrone. There’s also new custom emoji on Twitter that will accompany the hashtags #GameofThrones, #GoTS8, #GoT, #FortheThrone, and #PorElTrono (“for the throne” in Spanish).
As the promotion ramps up, there will be “an event-level outdoor marketing presence” in both Los Angeles and New York, as well as a presence at Grand Central Station beginning November 27. New Yorkers can even pick up one of 250,000 limited edition MetroCards while they wait for the final season of *Game of Thrones to finally arrive.
