'Dragon Ball Super: Broly' Movie Trailer: Watch Broly Whomp Goku and Vegeta
by Eric FranciscoBroly is back, and he’s wasting no time getting his hands dirty. A new trailer for Toei’s Dragon Ball Super: Broly finally gives fans a glimpse of Broly in action. The new film releases in Japan on December 14 arriving in the U.S. and Canada on January 16.
On Thursday, Funimation and Toei released the third trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the twentieth film in the anime/manga franchise but the first from Dragon Ball Super, the sequel series to Dragon Ball Z that began airing in 2015. The film is written by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, though Broly is only the third movie in the entire history of Dragon Ball to have his involvement.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly will introduce a new version of the infamous, ultra-powerful villain Broly, who previously only appeared in a trilogy of non-canonical films in the ‘90s.
In the movie, Goku and Vegeta will square off with Broly, a Saiyan exiled as a baby and trained to become a warrior. Now an adult, Broly exacts revenge against Goku and Vegeta. The film will also explore the history of the Saiyans and its war against Freiza’s army.
While previous trailers for Broly, including one that debuted at New York Comic Con last month, didn’t feature an adult Broly in action, the new trailer is almost nothing but action as Broly easily whomps Goku and Vegeta.
Broly’s popularity has endured for decades despite his scant few appearances in Dragon Ball media. He is currently a playable character in the best-selling fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly will be released in the U.S. and Canada on January 16.
