Hunting is a big part of Red Dead Redemption 2 and key to your survival. This game is filled with tons of animals to interact with (and kill), and that includes some Legendary creatures that you can use to craft special items, according to Paste Magazine.

If you’re curious about where to find those Legendary animals and how to hunt them, here’s everything you need to know.

Hunting 101

The key to hunting in Red Dead Redemption 2 is patience and accuracy, You want to make sure not to ruin the animal’s pelt, so use a bow and arrow and aim for the head or neck.

You’ll also need to pick a good spot to take your shot. Try sneaking up as close as possible, or take aim from your horse for a height advantage. You can also use items like Cover Scent Lotion to camouflage yourself and Bait to attract the animal.

Once you wound the animal you’ll need to track it. Try using Dead Eye Mode, which will make it easier to follow them. You’ll also know when they’re wounded or about to die the thanks to a flash of red.

Hunting legendary animals in Red Dead Redemption 2

When you’re in the same general area as a Legendary animal you’ll get an in-game notification. From there, you should see a white question mark on the map if you’re in Eagle Eye Mode that points you in the right direction.

Once you get closer, you’ll have to look for physical clues: signs of activity like track marks, animal droppings, scratches in trees, and fur. After that, you can use Eagle Eye Mode to find the next clue by looking for yellow markers.

Eventually, you should find the actual animal, which will be white to indicate that it’s a Legendary. From there, it’s up to you to do the actual hunting. Just don’t mess up the kill because there’s only one version of each Legendary animal per game.

One last note: If you take too long tracking the animal it will eventually disappear. At that point, you’ll have to start over from scratch. So do your best to track that Legendary quickly and consider taking out any other potential distractions (like enemies) in the area first.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PS4 and Xbox One.
