New 'Veronica Mars' Hulu Reboot Cast: Crucial Character Confirmed
Marshmallows will be thrilled to see this friendly face.
by Josie Rhodes CookNever fear, Marshmallows. When Veronica Mars returns as a Hulu revival in 2019, the head of Mars Investigations won’t be missing in action.
Not only will Kristen Bell return as Veronica Mars for the new eight-episode season, but Enrico Colantoni —also known as Bell’s father on the show, Keith Mars — is returning to Veronica Mars as well, TVLine reports.
Colantoni has signed on as a series regular in the revival. So this isn’t a one-off cameo situation, though Mars fans might have settled for that just to see Keith Mars again. Although he’s been busy on CBS All Access’ The Good Fight and on Showcase/Netflix’s Travelers, fans should be thrilled to know that he was able to make time in his schedule to return to Neptune.
Veronica Mars was a mystery drama television series that followed a high school student working as a private investigator with some guidance from her detective father. It originally ran on UPN and the CW from 2004 to 2007. There was also a 2014 movie thanks to devoted fans and a Kickstarter campaign. Bell and Colantoni both appeared in the movie.
In the new Hulu revival, Mars Investigations is hired to investigate a string of murders in Neptune, putting Veronica on the trail of another epic mystery years after the events of the film. Creator Rob Thomas previously stated on Twitter that, “the movie was nostalgic. The Hulu limited series isn’t going to be.” He added that the revival will be, “Hardcore So-Cal noir. One big case. Eight episodes to tell the story. This is a detective show.”
Bell also spoke recently about what fans should expect from the Hulu continuation, in an interview with SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio:
“It’s gonna be a much darker world, it’s going to be a bigger world, it’s definitely not what we did on UPN or The CW, so I want to brace fans for that, that it’s going to be darker and bigger and more cinematic, a little bit different.”
At least now, Veronica Mars fans can be sure that one thing isn’t going to change when the show returns on Hulu: the great relationship Veronica and her dad shared will likely be on full display again since Colantoni is now confirmed to appear on the series.
The Veronica Mars revival is expected to debut on Hulu in 2019.
