'Fortnite' Season 7 Skins, Map Changes, Challenges, and Everything to Know

What do we know in terms of start date, potential themes, and every other piece of pertinent information?

Big changes are bound to happen within Fortnite as the game transitions over into the new season. Concrete information is still scant, but we’ll update this post with every new detail we get, including theories about storylines, new updates to the game, and any relevant info about the direction Season 7 could take.

Developer Epic Games constantly updates Fortnite to keep things fresh for players, adding new weapons and other items to the experience while also incorporating various limited-time game modes and in-game events teasing the future of the game.

Here’s everything we know about Fortnite Season 7:

When Does Fortnite Season 6 End?

According to the in-game countdown, Fortnite: Battle Royale’s Season 6 is scheduled to end on Thursday, December 5 around 2 a.m. Eastern.

Epic Games has a habit of pushing back the end of a current season to give players more time to complete Challenges, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this time around. The developer has already announced a Season 7 start date, and the in-game countdown timer has already shifted into hours instead of days. So there’s little reason to believe things could change at this point.

When Does Fortnite Season 7 Begin?

Epic Games confirmed in a December 3 tweet that Season 7 would start three days later, which means December 6.

What Is the Theme of Fortnite Season 7?

By now, everyone is convinced that Season 7 will have some kind of winter theme. A December 3 teaser reads, “A bitter ice spreads…” and features some kind of ice king, so snow is probably coming in some fashion.

For weeks, an iceberg with a castle tower on top has been drifting towards the Fortnite island, seemingly bringing a winter storm with it. Some have dubbed it a “snowstorm castle,” so it’s possible that this new ice character causes the snow through some kind of magic.

Will this ice king blanket the map in snow? Will we see other magical characters rise to fight him?

Most previous seasonal themes explore various sci-fi concepts and each builds upon the last, but with the Purple Cube saga resolved in the middle of Season 6, there’s very little indication as to what Season 7 will focus on other than winter weather. The only clues are the new A.I.M. robot outfit featured in the Week 8 and 9 Hunting Party loading screens and the new bunker with teleporters that’s under Wailing Woods.

Season 6 began with the theme of “Darkness Rises,” but after the “Butterfly” event ended Fortnitemares and destroyed Kevin the Purple Cube, the Fortnite: Battle Royale island is looking a little brighter.

Season 2 explored the Medieval, Season 3 went to space, Season 4 brought comets and superheroes, Season 5 broke space-time with interdimensional rifts, and there’s no telling where Season 6 might lead in the end. Almost every season changes the map in dramatic fashion, warping it with science fiction storylines. We got a new Leaky Lake in early November, so who knows what could happen in the next month before Season 6 ends and Season 7 starts?

What New Skins Will Fortnite Season 7 Have?

Longshot and Insight (featured above) are two new skins revealed in the Fortnite game files following the version 6.31 game update. There’s also an accompanying back bling for each of these Rare outfits.

Oddly, there’s also a Lamp pickaxe that is literally just a lamp.

As for emotes, there’s “Mime Time,” which looks like just a Mime motion, and “Phone It In,” that lets the player conjure a saxophone to play. There’s also “Scorecard” that has the player brandish a scorecard as if they’re rating something. “Showstopper” has the player brandish their left fist in the air, and it might be linked to some of the rock ‘n’ roll outfits we’ve seen before.

None of these cosmetics really offer any indication about the Season 7 theme, unless Longshot and Insight are also robots connected in some way to A.I.M.

Will Fortnite Season 7 Have a Holiday Event?

Fans can safely expect Epic Games to celebrate the 2018 Holiday season in some fashion.

Dexerto reported after the version update 6.31 that several snow-related visual assets were added to the game. Things like “Ice Fog” and “Corrupt Rock Ice” could be linked to an overall wintry theme or part of a Holiday season celebration. Either way, it seems like some or all of the island will be covered in snow for Season 7.

The last time Fortnite ran during the winter, it was for Season 3. Save the World featured a lot more holiday-themed items than Battle Royale, but the version 1.11 patch notes detail a “Snowball Grenade Launcher, a festive Battle Bus, and other gifts.”

Epic Games will likely bring back classic winter skins and maybe even introduce some new ones, but we probably won’t learn anymore until early December. The developer did add plenty of Holiday-themed assets to the game in July, so that’s always a good sign.

How Much will the Fortnite Season 7 Premium Battle Pass Cost?

Fortnite: Battle Royale might be free to play, but for players that want access to the premium Battle Pass and all its associated challenges, purchasing the pass costs 950 V-Bucks. You can purchase 1,000 V-Bucks for $10 of real money, but anyone can earn more than enough V-Bucks back just by playing the game regularly throughout each season. So after the initial investment in a single Premium Battle Pass, it’s possible to just keep making enough V-Bucks to buy the next Pass — unless you spend all your hard-earned V-Bucks on other cosmetic items.
