'Big Mouth' Season 2 Trailer Has the Funniest Accidental Boner Scene Ever

The Puberty Monster, and 'Big Mouth', soar to new heights.

Impromptu erections happen to teenage boys from time to time, but only in the world of Netflix’s Big Mouth do they involve a giant hairy Hormone Monster screaming while he crashes a pedal-powered helicopter into the ground.

Netflix released a trailer for Big Mouth Season 2 on Thursday, and the crude animated series is raising the stakes this year the only way it knows how: boobs (hence the aforementioned boner). In addition to previewing more cringeworthy relatable moments about how embarrassing puberty is for everyone, the new trailer also debuts a new imaginary creature, the Shame Wizard. And there’s the introduction of Gina (Gina Rodriguez), a classmate and love interest to Nick.

When Gina takes off her jacket during soccer practice in the trailer she reveals breasts underneath her jersey that are far more developed than many of her classmates. “Boobs!” Andrew, Nick, and Jay all chatter as they gawk. As always, Big Mouth dramatizes the boob-obsessed lives of 13-year-old boys with such painstakingly relatable accuracy. Then the Hormone Monster makes it even more offputting by channeling a surge of hormones directly into Andrew’s body to fuel a poorly-timed erection.

Maurice the Hormone Monster opens up the 'Big Mouth' Season 2 trailer with a bang.

“Aaaah! Boobs!” Maurice the Hormone Monster shouts from the skies. “I’m coming in hot — real hot! Aaaah, I’m goin’ down!” Just as he crash-lands, Andrew has to dash off to the bathroom to hide his erection.

Big Mouth reliably creates visual metaphors with its imaginary monsters that somehow feel both intensely relatable and totally hilarious. Imaginary hormone monsters don’t actually scream and make a huge scene when somebody gets an erection, but when you’re 13 and it accidentally happens, it definitely feels like it. That’s exactly what makes this show so brilliant.

Season 2 looks like it might push the envelope even more in terms of what we can expect from these fictional beasts — especially when the Shame Wizard arrives to inflict lots of shame upon Andrew for his unsavory behavior. Let’s just hope the ghost of Duke Ellington can keep everyone light and cheery.

Big Mouth Season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix starting Friday, October 6.
