'Daredevil' Season 3 Release Date Revealed in Gritty New Netflix Trailer

by Eric Francisco

The devil of Hell’s Kitchen is coming back, and sooner than you think. A new trailer for Marvel’s Daredevil Season 3 reveals its premiere date for October 19 on Netflix. The trailer also teases a “rebirth” of sorts for Daredevil in his re-adoption his ragged black outfit.

On Thursday, Marvel/Netflix unleashed the trailer for Daredevil Season 3, with Charlie Cox back in the role of Matt Murdock. Set after the events of the crossover miniseries The Defenders, Matt returns as a gritty vigilante, back in his Frank Miller-style black costume (recycled from Season 1) instead of his cosplay-ready red suit.

The trailer also teases a new, dark setting for Matt Murdock: The basement of a convent, where Matt Murdock found himself at the very end of The Defenders. Based on other promotional materials released by Netflix, mainly in two new striking posters, Daredevil is doubling down on Matt Murdock’s Catholic heritage — and the guilt that comes when you’re a violent crimefighter.

Daredevil debuted in the spring of 2015 as the first Marvel/Netflix series, and immediately made a strong impression. The success of Daredevil ensured further Marvel/Netflix shows, such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and then The Defenders. The series also had its own direct spin-off, The Punisher, with Jon Bernthal reprising his anti-hero after debuting in Season 2 of Daredevil.
