The 'Fortnite' Purple Cube Has Died, But There's an Upside Before Season 6

There's an opportunity to complete one of Season 5's hardest Challenges.

In a totally underwhelming cosmic event towards the end of Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 5, the infamous Purple Cube has died. (R.I.P. Kevin the Cube: 2018-2018) But the event surrounding its death has created ample opportunity for players to easily complete one of the season’s hardest challenges.

At 4 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday afternoon, the Purple Cube reached its final resting place in the western waters of Loot Lake, just as the Fortnite data-miners predicted. Rather than continue rolling on awkwardly, the cube melted into the shallow liquid, and instead of transforming the water into lava like many players predicted, the lake became a bouncy purple substance that functions just like the Cube’s former surface, repelling any object that touches it.

The rivers connected to the lake and the rest of the map seemingly remain unchanged, but there’s one huge upside to this totally underwhelming development that has everything to do with one of the Week 9 Challenges.

It’s now ridiculously easy to get 150,000 trick points with a Shopping Cart or ATK for the Week 9 challenge, because driving one of the vehicles directly onto the lake will force it to bounce into the air repeatedly. This automatically triggers the trick meter every time, so all somebody needs to do is try and stick a few chaotic landings on the new bouncy lake and the challenge can be completed in a matter of minutes.

The Purple Cube originally appeared in late August on the western edge of the Paradise Palms desert biome area. Shortly thereafter, the cube began moving every few minutes, rotating across the landscape and destroying plenty of buildings and other structures in its wake.

According to the Season 5 Battle Pass, Season 5 should end on September 24, 2018 with Season 6 following soon thereafter, so there’s only so much time left to complete this and other challenges.
