The End of 'Fortnite' Season 5 Could Bring Catastrophic Changes to the Map
The latest leaks suggest something explosive is coming.
The end of Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 5 is fast-approaching, and that means Season 6 is close behind. There’s still a few more weeks to go, but recent [in-game events (and leaks) suggest something really big and bombastic is coming later this month.
Here’s everything you need to know about the end of Fortnite Season 5, from the latest theories to the date it finishes.
Fornite Season 5 End Date
Epic Games hasn’t announced an official end-date for Fortnite Season 5. However, considering that each season lasts 10 weeks you can expect the current season to end on or around September 24.
Then again, it’s possible the exact finish point could get delayed. It’s happened before with Season 4, which wound up running a few days past its planned end-point. That gave players some extra time to complete challenges, and presumably also gave Epic Games a chance to finalize its massive Season 5 update.
So don’t be surprised if Fortnite Season 5 doesn’t end exactly on September 24. But we still wouldn’t recommend leaving any challenges until the last minute anyway, just in case Epic does manage to hit its self-imposed deadline this time.
Fortnite Season 5 End Event
Season 4 ended with a massive rocket launch, time-bending rift portals, and a real-life augmented reality game. So how will Epic top that for Season 5’s big finish?
Again, we don’t really know, but it seems likely it has something to do with the big purple cube that’s been slowly rolling across the map for the past two weeks. Based on recent leaks, it looks like the cube could be headed towards Loot Lake, and the results could be catastrophic.
According to Fortnite dataminer Silox, once the cube reaches its destination it could change the map significantly. Specifically, the cube could summon some sort of volcano (picture in the leaked image above), presumably leading to an explosion that could reshape the entire area.
Based on that second image, which includes a player character for scale, the volcano isn’t nearly as big as the actual lake. So it’s unlikely the entire lake will transform, but maybe a volcano could just rise up from the center, crushing that fancy lake house in the process.
