'Pokemon: Let's Go': Eevee's Secret Abilities Are Way Cooler Than Pikachu's

Who cares about Splishy Splash when Eevee can do so much more.

Not even Pikachu’s new “Splishy Splash” is cooler than the secret moves that Eevee is packing in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!

On Monday, The Pokémon Company released a new trailer for the upcoming duo of Let’s Go games, and it focused on the “Secret Techniques” that Pikachu and Eevee can learn, along with “Special Partner Powers.” The former functionally replace traditional HMs. In the video, Eevee uses Chop Down to destroy a bush instead of Cut, and Pikachu uses Sea Skim instead of Surf to glide across the water.

But my absolute favorite new ability, seemingly called Sky Dash, allows Eevee to summon a harness with six balloons attached that function just like Fly.

Here’s a better look at Eevee’s cool new ability in action:

Both Pikachu and Eevee can supposedly learn all of the Secret Techniques, so none of them are exclusive to one or the other. But we haven’t actually seen what Pikachu’s Sky Dash looks like. Maybe each partner Pokémon gets something unique?

The Special Partner Powers that Pikachu and Eevee get are definitely very different. These seemingly function like exclusive in-game moves that help round out Pikachu or Eevee’s type weaknesses. Normally, each of these Pokémon, especially un-evolved, would wind up being pretty week. But a Pikachu with a Water move? Or an Eevee with a Fire move?

Pikachu gets Splishy Splash, a Water-type attack in which Pikachu pretty much just Surfs right into the enemy’s face, and the move has a chance to Paralyze them. Eevee, on the other hand, gets Bouncy Bubble, a Water attack that also heals Eevee.

Why does Eevee have way more exclusive moves in 'Pokémon: Let's Go'.

Eevee also gets Electric and Fire attacks called Buzzy Buzz and Sizzly Slide, which always inflict Paralyze or Burn, respectively. It’s unclear so far whether or not Pikachu will also get two more Exclusive Moves, but if it does, one will almost definitely be Fire-type. Who knows about the other? So far, at least, Eevee seems way better than Pikachu.

Both Eevee and Pikachu also each get a unique move that grows in power the greater their friendship is with their trainer — they’re called Pika Papow and Veevee Volley.

Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee! will be released on November 16, 2018 for the Nintendo Switch.
