'Fortnite' Lightning Strikes Could Kick Off New Season 5 Events
Temples, rifts, and lightning all points to the end of the world.
by Oscar GonzalezThursday’s v5.30 update for Fortnite: Battle Royale included plenty of content, but it also included new story event for the season including the destruction of Tomato Town and replaced with Tomato Temple. Also following the update, lightning began to strike across the island and no one knows why.
Multiple Fortnite: Battle Royale players captured the purple lightning coming from the Rift in the sky Thursday. This is reminiscent of the meteor strikes that occurred during the final weeks of Season 3. The lightning hints at Friday’s Rift event, but data miners discovered more events coming to the game.
Data miner TapohiFL found new files for an upcoming “Cube Event.” What they discovered was an image called M_Cube_DigiRunes, which they predict to be used as part of the event, but in what way is unknown.
TapohiFL also put together the audio files for the Cube Event, but they still don’t hint as to what will happen.
Another data miner, Siloxleaks, found a new event flag although they suspect the timing is suspicious. Listed at “BR_S5_RiskyReels”, this Season 5 event was set to take place Thursday to Saturday in Risky Reels, but as noted by the destruction of Tomato Towner, this may change dates.
One other addition to the island was the return of another sign. The motel sign was one of the advertisements lost into a Rift at the end of Season 4, but it’s now back in the game.
Along with the new events starting on Thursday and the leaked events in the future, there is still the Rift shrinking set for Friday. There was also a “Tomato Event” meant to start next week, but the Tomato Temple reveal may have been the real event.
Friday is the next storyline event for Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 5 as Epic Games winds down the season in order to make the jump to Season 6.
One subtle addition made in Thursday’s v5.30 update was the option to thank the Battle Bus driver, which Epic included after a petition from the Fortnite: Battle Royale players.
